Personally I thought 09 was a bit of a flop.  And I also think that NYE is just another night on the town!

This year’s resolutions include:

• learn how to braid my hair (I can braid, just can’t do my own)
• experiment more with eye shadow (yes, pathetic, but I am 21 and still can’t master the smokey eye)
• go to the gym twice a week (I am sick of wasting money on memberships)
• and do at LEAST 2 posts a week (as I think this is the first post in about 3 months…. eh)

lets hope I stick to them.

In Melbs I got some more MAC Studio Fix in C4 which I love…. I take back everything I ever said about MAC! (I think before I was wearing too light a shade….. I have upped my tan since being in the NSW sun).  Also got some Benefit goodies (Posie tint and Dallas blush) and some patent Bloch ballet flats which are rocking my world!!!!!!!!!

They even come in this cute little ballet bag!

I have prac for a month, which is a good experience but it really wears you out… (full time work is such a shock after being at uni – especially when your earliest class is 11am… )  and plus dealing with crazy people/rude people on no pay can also be a bit of a stab in the side.

I dealt with some crazies today and saw some crazies in Melbourne (I saw one lady swearing at a rubbish bin, telling the bin to get out of her way….) as long as I don’t go crazy from being overtired and over-studied everything should be fine!

Vampire Parties!

FINALLY a night to go out!  It had been months since I had last glamed it up, slapped on the makeup and hit the town… So I was pretty excited to be going out.

So here I am, all dressed up and maked up – ie. Full works makeup – foundation applied with a shovel, false eyelashes and eyes so smokey you’d think its ash Wednesday.  As it hit 10.30 I was feeling kinda tired, it was raining outside, not the most enticing night to head out.  Before I head off Mum walks in to check me out.  “Sigh” she says.  “Why do you make yourself look so ugly?!”  Massive hit to the confidence!  As I look in the mirror I realise I do look a little bit ‘too much’… the falsies, the cat like eyeliner…. I could really give Amanda Lepore a run for her money.

According to my mother, (and others) I look a lot prettier natural.  Ie.. no makeup at all! (or maybe just less).  I don’t know if I agree with this…. Sometimes without my fake tan I look like an AIDS victim.  You can see the veins on my eyelids and my dark hair just makes me look like a Goth.  Not hot!  Now if I’m not wearing a tinsy bit of eyeliner or mascara I basically look like a naked mole rat… yes that’s right my face basically just blends into a blob as my eyes disappear… all you can see is these dark eyebrows and that’s it.  But on other occasions (such as tonight) I just look like crap!  Either I’m just really hopeless at applying makeup or I have to much on (quite possibly a bit of both!)

When this happens, your stuck.  Do you either wipe in all off and start again? (no time!)  Or maybe wipe a winsey bit off? (too tricky! Because then its like half half and doesn’t blend properly!)  DRAMA!  When this happens I tell my self that ‘it will look good in the photos’ and ‘well adleast it will be dark inside’.  But that is not a good thing to tell yourself!

I know night makeup is a little more heavier than day, but if you wouldn’t leave the house looking like a drag queen during the day, then why would you leave the house looking like a drag queen at night?!

Do you sometimes feel prettier when you are at home al natural?  Or are you more of a glamazon?  Eyes are the nipples of the face but sometimes I do feel that less is more… you just need to find a balance.

In Borat Cohen does some pretty extreame things, and in Brüno I expect to see nothing less.  I didn’t think about what it would be liked to be pranked by Brüno untill I read an artilce about it.

For those who don’t know, Brüno is portrayed by comic provocateur Sacha Baron Cohen, who plays an Austrian fashion journalist, in a narcissistic, fame-obsessed, overstyled manour.  In the film Cohen plays alot of pranks on others, which is funny to watch but not so much if you are on the receving end.

“Just ask Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, who watched in horror as Brüno invaded the backstage of her spring 2009 runway show and bullied his way onto the catwalk. Clad in a velcro jumpsuit, Brüno streaked through de la Prada’s collection, taking much of it with him, and stepped onto the runway in what looked like some kind of bad deconstructionist ensemble. His blitz prompted the designer to kill the lights and suspend her show.

“I was furious with that man. He was violent. He pushed my art director to the floor and scared the models,” recalled de la Prada of Brüno. “But there he was, turning my show into a nightmare, and I wanted to kill him.”  De la Prada at one point threatened to sue Cohen for the damaged caused, but now sees the funny side of it all.  “I am happy with it now,” she said after reflecting on her upcoming star turn in the film. “It can be amusing, no? Besides, he’s given me a lot of publicity.”

Some of Cohen’s on-screen victims in Brüno have fought back. Two years ago, spectators at a Kansas cage-fighting event hurled beer cans when two fighters (one of whom was Brüno) began to make out. Last year, local police had to subdue flustered travelers when Brüno began an impromptu strip show at the Wichita airport. Last month, an employee of a bingo hall in California filed a claim against Cohen seeking damages for injuries she allegedly suffered while Brüno, dressed in “sexually revealing clothing,” shouted obscenities at the hall’s elderly guests.

By comparison, the fashion establishment’s only complaint is that Brüno didn’t punk them more. “He didn’t come to my fashion show,” lamented von Furstenberg. “But I wish he had.”  “Getting name-checked in Brüno is the ultimate fashion accessory,” said Halpin. “People want to be in the movie. It’s more insulting not to appear in it than to be insulted in it.”

Some in the fashion world have been in on the joke for months. In Paris in the fall, when Brüno was busy crashing runways at Iceberg and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Stella McCartney allegedly knew about Brüno’s plans at her show.

“I don’t know who you’re talking about,” she said with a wink when asked backstage about Brüno’s presence. He had clapped a little too loudly and showily preened himself while seated in the second row, but otherwise, Brüno was on his best behavior that day — a token show of…respect? “I love his work in fashion,” McCartney added.

In addition to Marie Claire, Brüno also landed the cover of GQ this month for a nude portrait shot by Mark Seliger — marking a rare moment in publishing in which one (celebrity?) books top billing on both a men’s and women’s title in the same month. The GQ cover, which was inspired by the famous 1971 nude portrait of Yves Saint Laurent, is nothing if not a nod to fashion insiders.

For all its garishness, there is also actual fashion in Brüno. Cohen wears bona fide pieces from Alexander McQueen, Roberto Cavalli, Raf Simons, Dolce & Gabbana, Thierry Mugler and Dsquared in the film and also name-drops the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton. To the movie’s Sydney premiere, Brüno dressed as a sexy knight in shining armor (complete with white horse), sporting a Gucci shirt and tie.’ ” Via WWD

1. Do wear comfy clothes. I don’t care where your going, what airport you are in or what class you are flying, if you are going to be on a plane for more than 12 hours trust me, you don’t want to be wearing tight jeans and high heals (ankles swell on long flights and turn into cankles, and sitting in jeans for a long time is not comfy).   Go JLo style even if you have too!  Velour ensemble, Burberry Cashmere, Bonds, Puma whatever.  Just not jeans.  If you are too embarrassed to rock around in your trackies then pack a pair of jeans in your carry to wear at the airport!  Don’t wear heals, but do wear closed in toe shoes.  Okay it sounds silly but closed in toes will hide your swollen feet.  And by wearing your closed in toe babies you will be able to get away with wearing extremely dorky flight socks – which prevent cankles.

2.  Don’t wear fake tan. Never wear fake tan on an overseas flight, even if you are going to some where tropical and you are currently in mighty whitey season.  Fake tan naturally dries your skin out.  Fake tan on your face, on a plane that is drying your skin out equals double dryness.  One time on a flight to London when I tanned it up for summer, my skin was drying up like a bitch, even after smearing my face with an entire tube of paw paw and using the complementary moisturiser in the aeroplane toilet.  When I landed in Dubai to change flights, the tan had half warn off, settled into my pores which gave the appearance of little splinters in my face.  It was uncomfortable, embarrassing, and awful.

3. Don’t wear makeup. Well heavy makeup anyway.  Especially a heavy smokey eye, because by the end of the flight you will be looking like a panda.  Even when your tiny bit of mascara wears off, it aways settles under your eyes making you look like you have just been to a service for Ash Wednesday.  Also if your foundation dries your skin out, don’t wear it! (see tip no.2) Pack some makeup wipes in your carry on though, to freshen your face up between flights.

4.  Don’t take anything over 100mls in your carry on. This sounds stupid and you probably already knew this, but you can so easily grab a perfume or giant Evian in your carry on – like I did when flying intra Europe.  “Sorry, but that 1.5 L Evian is over 100 mls, you either have to drink it now or throw it out” ummm I threw it out.  You can buy perfume, alcohol etc at airports (its so tempting when its Duty Free) but they stick a sticker on it that shows you brought it in the air port, and pop it in a special bag so its all okay to take on board.

5.  Don’t wear perfume on a plane. If you wear perfume on a plane, you will get sick of the smell.  12 hours after smelling your perfume on yourself, sitting on a stuffy plane, a screaming baby on your left and a vomiting passenger on your right – and all you can smell is your perfume.  Not only will it make you feel slightly sick, every time you spray that perfume on yourself again it will remind you of that horrible flight – and you will be sick of the smell.  My advice is to buy a perfume when you land.  Not only will it be Duty Free, but every time you smell it, it will remind you of your fabulous holiday.

6.  Do pack an eye mask, earplugs and a blow up neck pillow in your carry on. They really help you sleep.   Not all airlines give you a freebie eye mask, your going to need the earplugs to block out the screaming baby and the neck pillow will prevent you from falling asleep on the shoulder of the fat man sitting next to you.

7.  Don’t expect – anything. Don’t expect that there will be a shower cap in your hotel room!  Don’t expect that you will be able to buy suncream in Rome! Don’t expect you will be able to buy hair tyes in London! These are a few things that I did expect.  Yes you could buy suncream in Rome! SPF 2+ is all I could find.  I found an SPF 40+ , 100mls at the price of €17.50.  That converts to about $30 AUS.   I thought of course you can buy hair ties in London! All I wanted was a pack of thin, brown, Lady Jayne Hair ties.  5 pharmacies later and I gave up.  All I could find was these extremely thick black hair tyes, so thick, they could have been mistaken for car tyres.  So my advice is, if its something that you really need and use daily, pack it, because you might not be able to buy that certain thing when you are over there…

8.  Do brush up on your History. You will appreciate the monuments you are seeing.  I was blown away at the Pyramids of Giza in Cairo, as I studied Ancient Egypt in school a few years before.  Whereas in Rome, I had forgotten alot of my Roman History and didn’t appreciate how old the monuments where and how hard it would have been to built.  I still enjoyed myself but if you know your facts it makes the trip alot more interesting and mesmerizing.

9.  Do try and learn a little language. Im not expecting you to be fluent, but if you learn a little “hello how are you” it makes the trip so much more fun!

10.  Do relax and have fun! Don’t stress about sending postcards or buying gifts for friends – this is your holiday, take you time and enjoy yourself.

Face shapes aside, fringes are a great way to vamp up your look, you have to try getting a fringe once in your life time! (remember it always grows out!)

If you are going to get a fringe, you really have to be prepared to take the time to straighten it in the morning, or even give it a little wash.  As fringes are on the forehead they can get greasy very easily, especially when exercising or in the summer months.  I used to find that the rest of my hair would be fine, but then I would have this lanky fringe stuck to my forehead – not a good look.  Simply, just get a cup of water and dip your fringe in, give a little shampoo and dip again for a rinse, and then blowdry.  Getting the kinks out of your fringe is also important, but be careful not to over straighten otherwise you run the risk of looking like a Shetland Pony.  Basically my point is, if your fringe looks like crap, the rest of your hair will too.

My main question is…. Side fringe or full on frontal?

Okay you might have noticed that the girls with the full on bangs or full fringes have poker straight hair, and the girls with the side fringes have slightly wavy and not so straight hair.  Why you ask?

Its because if you have a full fringe it looks way better with straight hair! That’s why! You rarely see fluffy haired people with full on bangs, well, except for Ugly Betty.

As I have naturally wavy hair and can’t be bothered straightening my whole head in the morning, a sidey would probably suit me better. But my heart yearns for a full frontal…. Oh the decisions!  I will fill you in after the big chop!
