Recession Jewels – Anna Davern’s new take on Bling

May 22nd, 2009 | Tags: , , ,

Australian jewellery designer Anna Davern has reinvented the rock, creating jewellery made from glossy paper cut-outs.

The Melbourne based jeweller prints and adheres pictures to steel using sublimation. “I’ve used the technique to create oversized fake versions of traditional styles of jewellery. It’s kind of an homage to one of the initial tenets of Contemporary jewellery which was to react against the use of precious materials. These works are also an alternative to the real thing at a time when the real thing may no longer be affordable.”

Pictured below is one of Davern’s quirky pieces available from Pablo Franque.
